la taco trucks
These devices of vehicular mayhem have long fascinated me since my move to LA in 2006. Granted, Malibu doesn’t exactly fall prey to the swarms of taco trucks found east of the 405, but there is 1 truck that I always see in Malibu and I think the driver now recognizes me as I pass by in my car.
Here is the real reason for my post: starvation and curiosity. I love the idea of taco trucks, but...

Thanks Sonia!! I hadn’t heard of this artist and she told me that he always makes the desserts for his paintings because he’d rather paint from life than from memory. So cool! His cake sculpture is awesome.

The cake may have been served at a French-American reception held at the...

sushi swap
last night my lab 9 peach and berry crisp, golden and crumbly to perfection, went to the lab 6 defilers of sushi for a culinary swap last night. is that fair? maybe I’m just a sushi snob. and while i may not be adventurous in the i-eat-live-eel-and-fugu* variety, there is something to be said for fresh fish, and good flavor. i regret to say that student sushi is nothing like the perfect...
the walk-in
the heat from the ovens in the kitchen lab is so comforting (familiar), but not comforting in the physical sense. the kitchen must have reached a temperature upward of 85 degrees, even with the fans running. my pate sucree was practically melting in my hands… there was no way i would be able to get the dough into the pans without a struggle.
why not go work in the walk-in refrigerator? keep...
